I will be visiting for first time and have only a couple days to attend. Are there any special events during the week long triennial that might help me decide which days to attend? If not, any recommendations for days, such as first few, middle, or end? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks
There will be activities all day every day. There are seminars and train rides and a great vendor display area. However the later in the week you come the more equipment will be there. Lots of folks show up for the work week that precedes the event and help us get ready. Then the event starts and its amazing to see all of the equipment. The Saturday Big Parade is also a featured event. Bottomline for me would be if I only had a few days to attend I would be here Wednesday through Saturday. When ever you come I'm sure you will have a good time. Russ
Russ, Thank you for the information. I'll make my plans accordingly. Bruce
Bruce,
Your registration arrived today. You should know that the dates you put on the form for arrival and departure are just to give us a general idea for logistical purposes, and for planning the times volunteers will need to be available for unloading and loading of equipment. Thus even though you put specific dates on your form, you can always change them, and if you decide to come earlier, and/or stay longer, that should not be a problem as there is lots of room in South Meadow and you are not bringing any equipment.
"not bringing any equipment" Just to let you and others know that during the Triennial there will be 'scheduled' passenger trains that will allow you to see ALL of Train Mountain during your visit. These trains will not run the entire mainline in a single trip. Each train will run segments of the line and so to see the whole layout you will need to ride on several trains over your stay. At Central Station on the Southwest corner of the building there will be sign up sheets to put your 'reservation' in for a train ride. Most rides will be around 1 1/2 hours long. If you are interested in either being an engineer or conductor on these trains please reply to this post. If you wish to use your train to pull one of these trains it must be capable of hauling and most importantly STOPPING a train with 15 to 18 adults on it. Bottomline, you do not need to bring a train to the Triennial to have a good time or to see the layout. We will also be pushing our 'NO EMPTY SEATS' campaign which means if you go by Central Station with your train and we see an empty seat on your train you may be asked to stop and give a visitor a ride on your train. We all love the mountains and the tress, but the ride is really why we are here. 2012 Triennial Committee.
